We are actively looking for a Senior Port Planning Consultant to join our Netherlands office.  As part of the Planner Group, the Senior Port Planning Consultant will lead and support strategic planning, simulation, and optimization projects across container, bulk, and general cargo terminals. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, simulation capabilities, and stakeholder engagement experience to deliver data-driven solutions for global port operators.

Terminal Planning & Simulation

  • Lead master planning and design of port terminals (container, bulk, liquid, and general cargo)
  • Conduct static and dynamic capacity analyses using simulation tools
  • Evaluate CAPEX/OPEX tradeoffs and ROI for equipment and infrastructure investments
  • Optimize cargo handling systems and terminal layouts for operational efficiency

Project Leadership & Client Engagement

  • Manage end-to-end project delivery, including proposal development, execution, and client coordination
  • Facilitate workshops and stakeholder meetings to align technical solutions with operational needs
  • Represent the company in industry forums, webinars, and working groups (e.g., PIANC)

Technical Development & Mentorship

  • Develop and enhance internal simulation models and planning tools
  • Mentor junior consultants and contribute to internal knowledge sharing
  • Support business development through technical input and client presentations

Qualifications:

  • PhD or MSc in Transport Technology, Port Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in port planning, terminal simulation, and logistics consultin.
  • Proven track record in delivering high-impact projects for global operators (e.g., PSA, DP World, APMT)
  • Strong proficiency in simulation and data tools (e.g., MATLAB, SQL, VBA)
  • Experience with LEAN principles and performance monitoring in terminal operations
  • Familiarity with PIANC guidelines and international port standards
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
